Julien Alfred won the women’s 200m at the Diamond League’s Final Allianz Memorial van Damme
Saint Lucia’s Julien Alfred surged to a brilliant victory in the women’s 200 meters at the Allianz Memorial van Damme on September 4, securing her first-ever Diamond Trophy over the half-lap distance. The double Olympic medalist dominated the home stretch at Brussels’ King Baudouin Stadium, stopping the clock in a commanding 21.79 seconds to close her unbeaten 200m season in style.
The marquee event served as one of the premier highlights of the 2026 Diamond League Final’s opening night. Running into a virtually still wind of +0.1 m/s, the elite eight-woman field battled through suboptimal, chilly September temperatures.
Stepping onto the track with a flawless three-for-three record in the 200m this season, Alfred faced a fierce challenge along the bend. Team USA’s Kayla White got off to an aggressive start, threatening to upset the Saint Lucian star as the sprinters transitioned into the final straightaway.
However, Alfred showcased her signature poise and elite top-end speed. Shifting into an extra gear over the final 50 meters, she comfortably pulled away from the field. White crossed the line in second place with an excellent time of 22.00 seconds. Great Britain’s Amy Hunt capped off a stellar performance by claiming the bronze medal, clocking a season-best 22.16 seconds to complete the podium.
