
Here are the nominations for the women’s European Athlete of the Year
European Athletics has announced the ten nominees for the recognition of the continent’s number one women’s athlete. The voting takes into account the votes of four separate panels – European Athletics experts, members of the European Athletics Association, the media vote and the public vote, with each of these votes determining 25% of the total score for each athlete. The winner will be announced at a special Gala evening in Lausanne on 24 October.
Here are the ten contenders for the 2026 European Athlete of the Year award:
– Nadia Battocletti (Italy) – European champion in 5,000m and 10,000m, world indoor champion in 3,000m, European cross-country champion.
– Sofia Fiorini (Italy) – European champion in marathon race walking and world record holder in the discipline with 3:15:11 hours.
– Amy Hunt (Great Britain) – European champion in 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and with the 4x100m mixed relay, silver medalist in 100m at the Commonwealth Games.
– Georgia Hunter Bell (Great Britain) – European champion in 1,500m, world indoor champion in 1,500m, champion in Commonwealth Games 800m.
– Henriette Jaeger (Norway) – European 400m and 4x400m mixed relay champion, 4x400m World Relays champion.
– Yaroslava Mahuchikh (Ukraine) – European high jump champion, World indoor champion, Ultimate winner, season world ranking leader with 2.03m.
– María Perez (Spain) – European half marathon race walk champion and world record holder in the event with 1:30:06 hours.
– Jessica Schilder (Netherlands) – European shot put champion, 13 events over 20m this year, first woman over 21m in 15 years.
– Audrey Werro (Switzerland) – European 800m champion, World silver medallist indoor 800m medalist, Diamond Trophy winner and Ultimate winner, third in the all-time 800m ranking with 1:53.70 min.
– Emma Zapletalova (Slovakia) – European 400m hurdles champion, sixth in the all-time ranking of the discipline with 52.30 sec
