Jemma Reekie claimed victory at Fifth Avenue in New York
British athlete Jemma Reekie has claimed her second major road mile victory in a week after triumphing at the iconic Fifth Avenue race in New York on Sunday. Just seven days after setting a new European record in Düsseldorf with a time of 4:23.25, Jemma Reekie clocked a brilliant 4:14. However, the New York course is not used for official records.
It was still an exceptional victory for Jemma Reekie, who beat Americans Josette Andrews (4:17) and Rachel McArthur (4:18).
The success continued a strong finish to the season for the Briton, who also finished fifth in the 800m final at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham 2026 and 10th in the mile at the Commonwealth Games.
In the men’s race, Great Britain’s Jake Heyward finished second with a time of 3:46, just a second behind the winner from the United States, Marco Langon.
