Agnes Ngetich, Sharon Lokedi and Hellen Obiri renew their rivalty at New York City 10km road race
World cross-country champion Agnes Ngetich, two-time Boston Marathon winner Sharon Lokedi and New York City Marathon queen Hellen Obiri are set to reignite their fierce rivalry on Saturday (June 6) when the Kenyan trio compete in the 10km road race in New York City.
The three athletes last faced each other at the New York City Half Marathon on March 15, where Hellen Obiri imposed her will and finished first in a winning time of 1:06:33 hours.
Sharon Lokedi finished second in 1:07:10 hours, while Britain’s Megan Keith completed the podium in 1:07:13 hours. Agnes Ngetich, meanwhile, had an unusually weak performance, finishing 13th in 1:10:25 hours.
While Hellen Obiri and Sharon Lokedi may have had the edge in the half marathon, Saturday’s clash takes place on Agnes Ngetich’s specialized turf. The 25-year-old holds the women’s 10K road world record after clocking 28:46 in Valencia in 2024. She also holds the women’s 10K world record, clocking 29:27 at the 2025 Adidas Adizero Road to Records in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
Agnes Ngetich arrives in New York buoyed by a stellar start to her 2026 campaign. She opened the season by winning her first world title at the World Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Florida, triumphing in 31:28.
