
Alexander Ogando won the 200m gold at the Brussels Diamond League
Dominican sprinter Alexander Ogando won the 200m gold at the Brussels Diamond League after clocking 20.16 sec ahead of the American Robert Gregory with 20.19 sec and the 2021 World U20 champion Udodi Chudi Onwuzurike with 20.29 sec.
Alexander Ogando is World champion and Olympics silver medalist with Dominican 4x400m mixed relay. His personal best in 200m is 19.86 sec, which he set in May at the Grand Slam Track Miami and is Dominican national record.
In the men’s 3000m steeplechase, the winner was Ruben Querinjean of Luxembourg with 8:09.47 min, which is also a national record. Getnet Wale of Ethiopia finished in second place, 15 hundredths behind, and Isaac Updike (USA) was third – 8:10.59 min. The Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medalist in the event, Abraham Kibiwotm, finished 4th and missed the honors.
The fastest in the women’s 5,000m was Agnes Jebet Ngetich (Kenya) with a time of 14:24.99 min. Likina Amebaw (Ethiopia) finished second with 14:31.51 min, and another Ethiopian, Aleshign Baweke, was third with 14:31.88 min.
Niels Laros (Netherlands) finished first in the men’s 1,500m in a season-best 3:30.58 min. Phanuel Kipkosgei Koech of Kenya was second in 3:31.41 min, and American and Olympics bronze medalist Yared Nuguse was third in 3:31.51 min.
Jacory Patterson of the United States won the 400m in a time of 44.05 sec, a remarkable achievement. He beat fellow American Vernon Norwood in 44.62 sec and Charlie Dobson (Great Britain) in 44.81 sec.
