
Alexandra Stefania Uta won the European U20 title in 400m hurdles in Tampere
Alexandra Stefania Uta produced an outstanding final sprint to win the European U20 title in the women’s 400m hurdles in Tampere. The 17-year-old Romanian athletics talent beat the big favorite for the title, Meta Tumba of France, by 1 hundredth of a second. Alexandra Stefania Uta took gold with a new championship record of 55.55 sec.
Meta Tumba finished second with a new French national record of 55.56 sec. Viola Hambidge (Estonia) also finished with a new national record for girls under 20 of 56.71 sec after winning the bronze.
The Top 5 were completed by Mika Heikkonen (Finland) and Arabella Wilson (Great Britain), who missed the podium.
In men’s 400m hurdles there was also a new championship record after Czech athlete Michal Rada won the gold with 48.78 sec, which was also a new national U20 record. Far behind him, with a new Spanish national U20 record, was Iker Moreno with 49.66 sec. The bronze was shared between Quinten de Vos (Netherlands) and Marek Vana (Czech Republic), who clocked at 50.46 sec.
