
Amber Anning claimed Britain’s first ever women’s 400m world indoor title
Amber Anning claimed Britain’s first ever women’s 400m world indoor title at the 2025 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China. She suffered a setback in her victory after being involved in a push with American Alexis Holmes as she entered the second lap and lost her balance. However, the Briton eventually recovered to win the gold medal in 50.60 sec.
American Holmes finished second in 50.63 sec.
European silver medalist from Apeldoorn, Henriette Jaeger (Norway), continued her excellent season to claim bronze in 50.92 sec.
Amber Anning is a double Olympic medalist. She holds the British record for 400m, 49.29 sec, which she recorded when finishing fifth in the women’s 400m at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She won two bronze medals at the Paris 2024 Olympics in the women’s 4x400m relay and mixed 4x400m relay.
Amber Anning is the British record holder indoors over 200m and was part of British teams that won medals in the women’s 4x400m relay events at the 2019 European Indoor Championships and 2023 World Championship.
