
American domination in Brussels Diamond League
American track and field athlete Melissa Jefferson-Wooden became the sprint queen of the Brussels Diamond League after winning the 100m convincingly in 10.76 sec. She came close to the meeting record, which dates back to 2016, and was ten-hundredths behind her best ever. The American beat her compatriot Sha’Carri Richardson, who finished in 11.08 sec, with Great Britain’s Daryll Neita finishing third in 11.15 sec.
The two-time world champion Chase Jackson set a meeting record in the shot put, achieving victory with a throw of 20.90m. She was more than a meter ahead of Sarah Mitton (Canada), who finished with 19.89m, and Jessica Schilder of the Netherlands was third with 19.58m.
An American was the best in Brussels and in the women’s pole vault. Katie Moon was above everyone with 4.85m. She prevailed over Molly Caudery (Great Britain) with 4.80m, and Hana Moll (USA) also climbed to the podium with 4.74m.
American hurdles Anna Cockrell was the fastest of all in the 400m hurdles with a result of 53.66 sec. She overtook Gianna Woodruff (Panama), who finished in 53.89 sec, and immediately after them was Naomi Van den Broeck (Belgium) who finished in 54.12 sec, which is a Belgian national record.
American middle-distance runner Nikki Hiltz triumphed in the 1,500m, clocking at 3:55.94 min, which is the best result for the season. The American overtook Linden Hall (Australia), who finished in 3:56.33 min, and Nelly Chepchirchir (Kenya) with 3:57.35 min.
