Andreas Almgren won 5,000m gold at the Stockholm Diamond League with a new European record
The Diamond League in Stockholm offered exceptional results and many records. Andreas Almgren broke the European record in the men’s 5,000m, winning the race in 12:44.27 min, but his achievement remained in the shadow of Armand Duplantis, who shortly before him set a world record in the pole vault of 6.28m.
Andreas Almgren increased the positive emotions in the stadium in Stockholm. His achievement is also a new meeting record. The Swede sent Kenyan Daniel Komen’s record of 12:51.60 min, set in the distant 1996, into history.
Second in the 5,000m in Stockholm tonight was Ethiopian running Kuma Girma with 12:57.46 min, and third place was taken by Australian Ky Robinson with a personal best of 12:58.38 min.
Ky Robinson’s compatriot Linden Hall won the women’s 3,000m with a new personal best of 8:30.01 min. Ugandan athlete Sarah Chelangat finished second in the event with a national record of 8:31.27 min. british track and field athlete Innes FitzGerald took third place with a personal best of 8:32.90 min.
