Armand Duplantis reveals Usain Bolt’s promise before his next world record
Armand Duplantis has revealed how the promise of a night out with Usain Bolt motivated him to set another world record. The Swedish athlete broke his own personal best and world record in the pole vault for the 12th time in his career, clearing 6.28m at the Diamond League in Stockholm.
The achievement is particularly special for Armand Duplantis as it is his first time breaking the world record in his home country.
The 25-year-old athlete first secured victory in the event and then took the opportunity to break his own record of 6.27m, set in Clermont-Ferrand in February.
Armand Duplantis leaped 6.28m in the Swedish capital to a standing ovation.
After tearing up his team with joy, the Swede ran to his family in the stands, among whom was his partner, Swedish model Desire Inglander.
As the crowd cheered, Armand Duplantis basked in the applause. Among the spectators at the Olympic Stadium was legendary sprinter Usain Bolt, who was spotted chatting with the Swede before the race.
After setting a new world record, Duplantis revealed that the prospect of a night out with the Jamaican had given him an extra boost.
In an interview, he said: “It’s great for me. He said if I break the world record we can party tonight, so I’m sure it’ll be a fun night with him, but I’m just very happy”.
