
Australian athlete Jessica Hull
Jessica Hull is a middle and long-distance runner from Australia. She secured a silver medal in the 1,500m at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She is a four-time national champion for Australia, claiming two titles in the 1,500m and two in the 5,000m, as well as two-time individual NCAA Division I champion. In July 2024, Jessica Hull improved the world record in the 2,000m, clocking in at 5:19.70 min. Additionally, she holds the Oceanian record for both the indoor and outdoor 1,500m, the indoor and outdoor mile, and the outdoor 3,000m. Her Oceanian record of 3:50.83 min in the 1,500m ranks as the 5th-fastest performance in history for this event.
Jessica Hull was born on October 22, 1996, in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. She was raised in Albion Park and started participating in school cross-country and athletics events at the age of eight. Additionally, she played soccer until she turned fourteen.
Jessica Hull started her competitive athletics career in 2011 to finish 5th in 1,500m at the Sydney Australian U16 Championships. However, next season she already proved her skills and talent, winning the gold medals in 1,500m and 3,000m at the Sydney Australian U17 Championships. During the season, she also triumphed with the 1,500m gold at the Sydney Premiership.
In 2013, Jessica Hull continue having fantastic results by winning the 3,000m gold at the Sydney NSW Allcomers, Brisbane Garry Brown Shield, Sydney NSW U18 Championships, as well as Townsville Australian All Schools Championships and Sydney NSW All Schools Championships, where also grabbed the 1,500m gold medals.
Jessica Hull started the 2014 season by winning the 800m and 1,500m gold medals at the Wollongong NSW Championships, before winning the silver medals at the Sydney NSW Junior Championships in 800m and 1,500m. She triumphed with the 1,500m gold at the Sydney Bankstown Invitational and the bronze at the Sydney Australian Junior Championships and then make a series of two wins at the Sydney NSW Pre Departure and Brisbane QA Winter Series. She ended the season by competing at the Melbourne Zatopek:10 in 3,000m and Sydney Albie Thomas Night of Miles in one mile, but missed the honors.
In 2015, Jessica Hull improved her personal best in 1,500m to 4:20.49 min at the Sydney NSW Championships, finishing second. Meanwhile, she won the 1,500m gold at the Sydney NSW U20 Championships, Sydney Bankstown Invitational, Sydney Australian Junior Championships.
In 2016, after high school Jessica Hull went to the United States where she studied at University of Oregon, completing a degree in human physiology, but also competed in college athlete, representing Oregon Ducks. During her maiden season, her biggest achievement was the silver at the Fayetteville Razorback Invitational in one mile short track.
In 2017, Jessica Hull won the prestigious 4×1,500m relay bronze at the Philadelphia Penn Relays. She also won the 1,500m bronze at the Eugene Pac-12 Championship.
Jessica Hull secured the bronze medal in the NCAA Division I indoor 3,000m event in 2018. Over the subsequent two years, she achieved six podium finishes across indoor and outdoor track events as well as in cross country, which included four collegiate championships. In 2018, she became the individual NCAA champion in the 1,500m and in 2019, she won the indoor 3,000m, accumulating a total of seven All-American honors. During the 2019 season, she debuted in the Diamond League to finish 5th in one mile at the Muller Grand Prix in London. She also competed in 1,500m at the Doha IAAF World Championships in Athletics, but did not qualify for the final.
In 2020, Jessica Hull won the gold at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in 1,500m and Melbourne Track Classic in 5,000m. At the Diamond league events, she finished 4th in 5,00m in Monaco, 5th in 1,500m in Stockholm, and 9th in 3,000m in Doha. Meanwhile, she won the 1,500m silver at the Goteborg Friidrott GP, 1,500m bronze at the ISTAF Berlin, as well as 5km road bronze at the Fast 5K.
In 2021, Jessica Hull won the 1,500m bronze at the Irvine Track Meet and also won the gold at the McKenzie International and Sound Running Sunset Tour – Trabuco. She made her Olympics debut, competing in 1,500m at Tokyo Games and finished 11th in the final, clocking 4:02.63 min. She ended the season at the Eugene Diamond League, competing in 1,500m and finished 11th.
Jessica Hull started the 2022 season by finishing 4th at one mile short track at the Millrose Games in New York. She finished 7th in 1,500m at the World Indoor Tour Madrid 2022 and 6th in 3,000m at the Beograd World Athletics Indoor Championships. Jessica Hull won her first national title during the season, triumphing at the Sydney Australian Championships in 5,000m, but also won her first Diamond League honors, winning the 3,000m bronze in Doha and 1,500m silver in Birmingham. At the Eugene World Athletics Championships, she finished 7th in the 1,500m final and ended the season by competing at the Diamond League meetings in Monaco and Lausanne, finishing 8th and 11th, respectively, as well as Diamond League Final in Bruxelles, where finished 12th in 1,500m.
Jessica Hull started the 2023 season winning the cross country bronze at the Bathurst 44th World Athletics Cross Country Championships and continue by triumphing with the gold medals at the prestigious Maurie Plant Meet – Melbourne in 1,500m, Sydney Track Classic in 3,000m, and Brisbane Australian Championships in 1,500m and 5,000m. She continue by winning the bronze at the Diamond League’s Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in 1,500m and Oslo Bislett Games in one mile, while at the Herculis Meeting International d’Athletisme EBS in Monaco set a new national and Oceania record in one mile of 4:15.34 min. At the Budapest World Athletics Championships finished 7th in the 1,500m final and ended the season by finishing 5th at the Riga World Athletics Road Running Championships in one mile road, and 8th in the Diamond League Final in 1,500m.
In 2024, Jessica Hull made her most significant achievements so far. She won the gold at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston in 3,000m and the silver at the Millrose Games in New York in one mile short track, setting a new national and Oceanian record of 4:19.03 min. At the Glasgow World Athletics Indoor Championships, Jessica Hull finished 4th but again improved the Australian and Oceania record in 3,000m short track to 8:24.39 min. On July 7, 2024, she set a new Oceanian record in the 1,500m with a time of 3:50.83 min at the Meeting de Paris. This achievement elevated her to 5th place on the all-time top list. Later that month, during the Herculis Meeting in Monaco, Jessica Hull participated in the 2n000m, clocking in at 5:19.70 min, thereby breaking the previous world record held by Burundi’s Francine Niyonsaba, who had recorded a time of 5:21.56 min in 2021. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she secured a silver medal in the 1,500m, finishing with a time of 3:52.56, just behind Faith Kipyegon. In October 2024, it was revealed that she had registered for the inaugural season of the Grand Slam Track, founded by Michael Johnson.
In 2025, Jessica Hull made another fantastic performance at the Nanjing World Athletics Indoor Championships, winning the 3,000m bronze. Meanwhile, she made her Grand Slam Track and 2025 outdoor debuts in the 800m at the first Grand Slam Meet in Kingston, Jamaica, on April 4, finishing third with a new personal best of 1:58.58 min, while at the Grand Slam Track Philadelphia she finished second in 1,500m and 3rd in 800m. At the Perth Australian Championships, she won the national titles in 1,500m and 5,000m.
