Beatrice Chebet won the 10,000m gold and Ryan Crouser defended his shot put world title in Tokyo
Olympic champion and world record holder Beatrice Chebet won the 10,000m gold at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, her first world championship title. The Kenyan athlete was fastest in the distance with a time of 30:37.61 min, more than half a second ahead of Italy’s Nadia Battocletti, while Ethiopia’s Gudaf Tsegay took bronze. Beatrice Chebet will try to repeat her success in the 5,000m next Saturday.
The US mixed relay team won the 4x400m title for the third time in four years since the event began. The Americans triumphed in 2019 and 2023, but were left with only bronze in the home competition in Eugene in 2022. Femke Bol helped the Netherlands win a silver medal in the relay, and the Belgian team, which finished third, will also be on the podium.
American Ryan Crouser made an impressive achievement and, after his three Olympic gold medals, added a world title in Tokyo in the shot put with a result of 22.34m. The 32-year-old Ryan Crouser left behind Mexican Uziel Munoz with 21.97m and Italian Leonardo Fabbri with 21.94m. Tom Walsh of New Zealand had a same result, but Leonardo Fabbri made a better second attempt.
Earlier in the day, Canadian Evan Dunfee triumphed in the men’s 35km race walk, while Maria Perez won the gold in the women’s event.
