Bulgaria’s number 1 athlete for 2023, Bozhidar Saraboyukov, won the long jump gold at the strong tournament Elite Indoor Track Miramas Meeting.
The Bulgarian athlete had an excellent competition at the Miramas Metropol Hall, landing 8.19m in his last attempt – his second best result in his career after his jump of 8.22m on August 8, 2023 in Jerusalem, Israel.
Bozhidar Saraboyukov’s joy after this jump also became an attraction for the audience, after he made three consecutive back flips.
The athlete showed his good form with results of 8.00-7.99m and 8.01m, but in the fifth attempt, Heng Shu (China) registered 8.12m. This only motivated Bozhidar Saraboyukov, which led to the great result – second in the world rankings for the season.
Third in the long jump event came Gerson Balde (Portugal) with 7.88m.
Just two days before his triumph in France, Bozhidar Saraboyukov took third place at the tournament in Belgrade, Serbia on January 29, where he recorded his debut of the year with 8.06m. There, the winner was Swedish jumper Thobias Montler with the best jump of the year – 8.23m, and the Bulgarian athlete beat the Olympic, world and European champion Miltiadis Tentoglou (Greece).
Liadagmis Povea (Cuba) topped the world ranking of the women’s triple jump for the year with 14.57m in France ahead of her compatriot Leyanis Perez Hernandez with 14.52m.
