
Chidi Okezie triumphed with the 400m title at the Gold Label’s Belgrade Indoor Meeting
The All-African Games winner and World U20 champion Chidi Okezie triumphed with the 400m title at the World Athletics Tour Indoor Gold Label’s Belgrade Indoor Meeting. The Nigerian runner clocked at 46.54 sec, winning the gold. The silver in the event remained for Gilles Biron (France), lagging just 0.23 sec, while the bronze remained for Rok Ferlan (Slovenia).
Chidi Okezie is born in the United States, but since 2018 represents Nigeria. He was part of the American 4x400m relay team that won a gold medal at the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics in Barcelona. He represented Nigeria at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and reached the semifinals of the 400m. He also ran the anchor leg for the country in the 4×400 metres relay heats.
In men’s 1,500m of the Belgrade Indoor Meeting, the African Youth Games silver medalist Anass Essayi (Morocco) grabbed the gold with 3:37.56 min, beating by almost a second Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang (Kenya), who remains with the silver. The bronze was for Romain Mornet (France).
The Top 5 in 1,500m were completed by two French athlete – Louis Gilavert and Pierrik Jocteur-Monrozier.
