
Dalilah Muhammad announced that 2025 will be her final season on the track
Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic 400m hurdles champion and former world record holder in the event Dalilah Muhammad has announced that she expects 2025 to be her final season on the track.
“This will be my last year on the track. I haven’t announced or made an official announcement yet, but I think it will be”, said the American ahead of her debut at the Grand Slam Track in Kingston.
Dalilah Muhammad, 35, said in 2023 that she will compete in her final Olympic qualifiers in 2024.
Dalilah Muhammad is the champion of the Rio 2016 Olympics and the silver medalist from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she achieved the distinction of being the second-fastest woman in history for the event, clocking a personal best of 51.58 sec. She secured second place at the World Championships in both 2013 and 2017 before claiming her first gold medal in 2019, during which she set a new world record of 52.16 sec. Dalilah Muhammad became only the second female 400m hurdler, following Sally Gunnell, to win Olympic and World titles while also breaking the world record. Additionally, she earned gold medals as a member of the women’s 4x400m relay team at both the 2019 World Championships and the Tokyo Games.
Dalilah Muhammad triumphed in the 400m hurdles at the 2007 World Youth Championships and finished as the runner-up at the 2009 Pan American Junior Championships. During her collegiate career, she represented the USC Trojans, where she was recognized as a four-time All-American at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Furthermore, she was crowned the American national champion in 2013, 2016, and 2017, and she won the Diamond League title twice.
