Fotyen Tesfay won Berlin Half Marathon with fifth best result in the history of the event
Ethiopian long-distance runner Fotyen Tesfay achieved the fifth best result in the history of the half marathon. She won the race in Berlin in 1:03:35 hours, which is also a new course record. Her compatriot Gemechu Dida won the men’s race in 58:43 min.
Fotyen Tesfay is third in the all-time ranking of the discipline with 1:03:21 hours from Valencia last year.
“The course is very good, but it was extremely windy. The low temperature also made it difficult for me”, said the Ethiopian after her victory.
The second in women’s Berlin Half Marathon finished Ftaw Zeray (Ethiopia) in 01:07:01 hours, while her compatriot Alemaddis Eyayu came third in 01:07:11 min. The Top 5 was completed by two Kenyan runners – Diana Chepkorir and Winnie Kimutai.
In the men’s race, Kenyan Richard Etir Lodung came second in 59:30 min, and Amanal Petros of Germany finished third with a new national record of 59:31 min. With this achievement, he came fourth in the all-time ranking of Europe.
Richard Ringer and Curtin Fearghal completed the Top 5, but missed the honors.
