
George Beamish won men’s 3,000m steeplechase world title
New Zealand’s athlete George Beamish produced one of the surprises of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. He brought Oceania its first world title in the men’s 3,000m steeplechase, finishing first in 8:33.88 min.
George Beamish overtook the big star Soufiane El Bakkali (Morocco), who this time had to settle for silver in 8:33.95 min.
Edmund Serem (Kenya) finished third with a time of 8:34.56 min, winning the bronze.
Samuel Firewu (Ethiopia) and Salaheddine Ben Yazide (Morocco) completed the Top 5, missing the podium.
George Beamish finished 5th at the 3,000m steeplechase in Budapest 2023, but won the 1,500m gold at the 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow. He is also NCAA Indoor Championships in 2019 in one mile short track and won the Eugene Diamond League in 2021 in one mile run.
