Athletics News . Running News Article

British athlete Georgia Hunter Bell delighted 60,000 fans at the Diamond League in London after winning the 800m event in 1:56.74 min. American runner Addison Wiley finished second in 1:57.43 min, and Ugandan star Halimah Nakaayi came in third in 1:57.62 min.

This was a second win for Georgia Hunter Bell in her past two Diamond League races over the distance, having won in Stockholm last month. The British athlete is focusing on the World Athletics Championships in September, where she still missed the podium.

In the women’s 5,000m at the London Diamond League, Ethiopia dominated, with representatives from the African country taking four of the top six positions. Medina Eisa won in 14:30.57 min, her compatriot Fantaye Belayneh finished second in a personal best of 14:30.90 min, and Australian Rose Davies earned the bronze in a new continental record of 14:31.45 min.

Medina Eisa is one of the biggest talents in long-distance running. She won the gold medal in the 5,000m at the 2022 and 2024 World Under-20 Championships and silver in the junior women’s race at the 2023 World Cross Country Championships.
