Yaroslava Mahuchikh is a talented high jumper from Ukraine who made a remarkable entrance into the Olympic arena by clinching the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. She has an impressive track record, having secured the gold medal at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games and being crowned the World and European champion at the U18 level. Her accolades include silver medals at the 2019 and 2022 World Championships, where she also set a new World junior record. In 2024, she made history by breaking one of athletics’ oldest world records in the high jump, achieving a personal best of 210 cm. Furthermore, she earned the Olympic title in Paris.
Yaroslava was born on September 19, 2001, in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, and began her high jumping journey at the age of 13. By 15, she had already made headlines by winning gold at the 2017 IAAF World U18 Championships in Nairobi, achieving the largest winning margin in the event’s history with a personal best of 192 cm. That same year, she also claimed gold at the European Youth Olympics held in Gyor, Hungary.
In 2018, she continued her winning streak by securing gold at the European U18 Championships in Gyor, Hungary, and once again at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In 2019, she proudly took home the silver medal from the World Championships in Doha, Qatar. A year later, she continued her winning streak by earning a bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland. Additionally, she earned a bronze medal at the Diamond League event in 2019, specifically at the Prefontaine Classic in Palo Alto, California, USA.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh made waves in 2020 by winning two gold medals during the World Athletics Indoor Tour, specifically at the Mueller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow and the Indoor Meeting in Karlsruhe. The following year, she added a bronze medal to her collection at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which were postponed to 2021. Her stellar form carried into 2021, where she bagged three medals in Diamond League competitions, including a gold at the Bauhaus-Galan in Stockholm and silver medals at the Athletissima in Lausanne and the Weltklasse in Zurich.
