Jakob Ingebrigtsen made history by winning a 1,500m and 3,000m double in Nanjing
Jakob Ingebrigtsen made history by winning his second world indoor title in Nanjing. After yesterday’s triumph in the 3,000m, he also won the 1,500m gold in 3:38.79 min. He became only the second athlete in history to win a world indoor double in the 1,500m and 3,000m after the legendary Ethiopian athlete Haile Gebrselassie, who won both events at the 1999 World Championships in Maebashi.
Just two weeks ago, Jakob Ingebrigtsen also won his third European double in the 1,500m and 3,000m in Apeldoorn.
“Of course this is something special. It’s very difficult to compare yourself against history and what others are doing. I’m only focusing on myself. I think I can do more, so I’ll try to maximize that and grab the opportunity given to me. The goal is to participate as much as I can. It’s definitely important to use the opportunities and not take anything for granted”, said Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Britain’s Neil Gourley won silver in the 1,500m in China in 3:39.07 min, while American runner Luke Houser won bronze in 3:39.17 min.
