Jeremiah Azu continued his excellent start to the season winning at the ISTAF Indoor in Dusseldorf
The reigning world and European indoor 60m champion Jeremiah Azu continued his excellent start to the season with victory at the ISTAF Indoor in Dusseldorf, a silver event on the World Athletics Indoor Tour. Just two days after finishing second to his British teammate Romell Glave in Stockholm in 6.54 sec – his fastest time of the season – Jeremiah Azu improved his time to 6.53 sec to win against a largely local competition at the PSD Banke Dome.
Yannik Wolf finished second in a career best of 6.60 sec, while Nigeria’s Fola Olaoye clocked the same time to finish third.
European indoor champion Menno Vloon scored a remarkable victory over former two-time world champion Sam Kendricks of the United States in the pole vault. Menno Vloon, who won one of seven gold medals for the Netherlands at the 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn last March, was the only athlete in the pole vault to clear 5.75m. He won by one height ahead of Sam Kendricks, who cleared 5.70m before making unsuccessful attempts at 5.75m and 5.80m.
Enrique Llopis won a Spanish 60m hurdles duel, clocking 7.50 sec ahead of 2022 European champion Asier MartÃnez, who finished second with 7.59 sec.
Germany’s leading stars in the sports disciplines have had mixed results. Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye began her season with a victory in the shot put with a throw of 18.78m in the second round, holding off Jamaica’s Danniel Thomas-Dodd’s third attempt of 18.71m.
Reigning European champion Malaika Mihambo, however, had to settle for third place in the long jump. She improved her mark to 6.56m in her final attempt, a result that proved insufficient to dislodge Romanian European U23 champion Ramona Elena Verman from the top of the standings.
Ramona Elena Verman led the way in the fourth round with 6.59m to take the win from Sweden’s Khaddi Sagnia, who finished second to Malaika Mihambo with 6.56m.
