Jimmy Gressier will attack Mo Farah’s one-hour record at the Diamond League final in Brussels
French track and field star Jimmy Gressier will attempt to break the world record in the hour-long run at the Diamond League final in Brussels on September 4, the event’s organizers announced.
The reigning world 10,000m champion and European half-marathon champion will aim to break the 21,330m mark. The record was set by Britain’s Mo Farah at the same event in 2020. Jimmy Gressier’s attempt will be part of an extended program at this year’s two-day Diamond League final, which will be held at the King Baudouin Stadium.
Belgian athlete Isaac Kimeli, world silver medalist in the 5,000m, will also try to make history in Brussels. The European Championships finalist is hoping to break Belgium’s long-standing national 5000m record of 12:49.71, held by Mohammed Mourhit since 2000.
The tournament, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026, will once again host the Diamond League finale on September 4 and 5.
The season finale will bring together the world’s best athletes, with finals in all 32 Diamond League events taking place over the two days.
Athletes qualify for the final through a 14-event Diamond League tournament series that begins next week in Shanghai. Other European stars who have already confirmed their participation in Brussels include Olympic and world champion in pole vault Armand Duplantis and world record holder in high jump Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
