Julien Alfred, Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden meet at Eugene Diamond League
Julien Alfred defeated Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden to win Olympic gold in the 100m in Paris. Nearly ten months after Julien Alfred’s stunning 10.72-second victory in the women’s 100m at the Olympics in the French capital, a long-awaited rematch is coming.
The 24-year-old sprinter from St. Lucia will face Paris silver and bronze medalists Sha’Carri Richardson and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden at the Diamond League in Eugene on July 5.
The trio have not competed together since their Olympic meeting.
Julien Alfred and Sha’Carri Richardson have competed twice, splitting the wins, and a convincing 5-0 record against Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, despite not having met since the Olympics.
Julien Alfred confirmed her participation in the Prefontaine Classic following his recent victory in Stockholm, where he broke the 31-year-old race record with a time of 10.75 sec.
Sha’Carri Richardson announced his participation earlier this year, and Melissa Jefferson-Wooden recently joined the lineup, setting the stage for a rematch on the Olympic podium.
The Prefontaine Classic is significant for both Julien Alfred and Sha’Carri Richardson, as they compete in the event in 2024, with Sha’Carri Richardson taking the win.
Sha’Carri Richardson has a history of strong performances at Hayward Field, including a fourth-place finish in 2023 and a memorable, if disappointing, return to the race in 2021.
