Letsile Tebogo takes short break from athletics after disappointment at the Rabat Diamond League
Letsile Tebogo has made an emotional statement after his disappointing performance at the Rabat Diamond League. The Botswanan sprinter endured a difficult time in a race he was expected to dominate on Sunday night.
Letsile Tebogo was ready to shine in front of thousands of Africans who had packed the stadium to watch him, but a few setbacks prevented him from doing so.
The reigning Olympic 200m champion had intended to compete in both the 100m and 200m and was hoping to win both events.
He ultimately managed to finish ninth in the 100m, where South Africa’s Akani Simbine continued his winning streak with a time of 9.95 sec. Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala and Olympic bronze medallist Fred Kerley finished second and third, respectively.
Letsile Tebogo withdrew from the 200m, where Courtney Lindsey took the win, with Joseph Fahnbulleh coming in second. Fred Kerley again placed third.
After a last-minute withdrawal from the 200m and a disappointing performance in the 100m, fans noticed something was off with Letsile Tebogo’s form.
In a pre-race press conference, the World Championships 100m silver medallist expressed confidence in his preparation and was confident of a good performance, but the opposite happened.
To address the speculation, Letsile Tebogo shared a message on his Instagram account, noting that he was battling a recurring injury that was difficult to deal with.
“Today’s performance wasn’t what I had hoped for, I’m currently dealing with a recurring injury, which hasn’t been easy. However, I’m channeling this disappointment and pain into resolve. I’m already focused on recovery and growth, and I know I will come back a stronger man. See you soon.”, wrote Letsile Tebogo in the social media.
