Athletics News . Sprints News Article

Letsile Tebogo brought immense joy to the local supporters at the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix by achieving a resounding victory in the 200m event during the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting held in Gaborone on Saturday.

The achievements of the Olympic champion’s compatriots, Bayapo Ndori, Oratile Nowe, and Kethobogile Haingura, were also met with enthusiastic cheers as they secured victories at the National Stadium. Furthermore, the triumph of South Africa’s Akani Simbine in the 100m, and the decisive win of the USA’s Dalilah Muhammad in the 400m hurdles, added to the electrifying atmosphere of the event.

In his first 200m race of the season, following four previous 400m races in recent months, Letsile Tebogo’s unquestionable victory over half the track was a testament to his remarkable skill and determination.

Tebogo had a strong start in the race, running alongside Luxolo Adams around the curve. The African record-holder, Luxolo Adams, effortlessly sprinted down the home straight and comfortably won the race in 20.23 seconds. Adams finished second with a time of 20.42 seconds.

The event featured two 200m races, and the first race was won by Sinesipho Dambile of South Africa, who clocked 20.01 seconds.
