Mattia Furlani, Andy Díaz Hernandez, and Zaynab Dosso are the Italian stars for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing
Two medalists from the Paris 2024 Olympics and two European Indoor champions from Apeldoorn have been named in the Italian team for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China, next week.
Silver medalist in the long jump Mattia Furlani and bronze medallist in the triple jump Andy Díaz Hernandez will join European 60m champion Zaynab Dosso.
Zaynab Dosso ran a world’s number one time for the season and a national record of 7.01 sec to win the European 60m title in Apeldoorn, and the 25-year-old, who also won the world indoor bronze in Glasgow last year, will be back purchasing the medals in Nanjing.
Andy Díaz Hernandez also set a world’s number one mark for the season to win in Apeldoorn with 17.71m to add European indoor gold to his Olympic bronze, while Mattia Furlani – world leader with his 8.37m jump from Torun – secured silver in Apeldoorn, having been beaten in the gold by a centimetre by Bozhidar Saraboyukov.
The Italian trio will be joined by their fellow European indoor medalist Andrea Dallavalle, who won bronze in the triple jump. The 2024 World Indoor medalists Lorenzo Ndele Simonelli and Leonardo Fabbri are also in the Italian squad for China.
