
Neeraj Chopra starts the 2025 season at the Doha Diamond League in May
Reigning world champion and Tokyo 2021 Olympic champion in javelin throw Neeraj Chopra has confirmed his participation in the Diamond League in Doha on May 16. The Qatari capital is the third stop on the 2025 Diamond League circuit.
“Neeraj Chopra is already preparing to open the season with his coach (world record holder Jan Zelezny)”, shared the head coach of the Indian national team, Radhakrishnan Nair.
The Doha Diamond League had been Neeraj Chopra’s choice to start his 2023 and 2024 athletics seasons as well. He won the 2023 edition with an 88.67m and finished second last year with a throw of 88.36m.
Neeraj Chopra is currently training under legendary Jan Zelezny in South Africa and will also look to defend his world championships title in Tokyo in September.
Neeraj Chopra is regarded as the foremost Indian javelin thrower, having secured medals at the Olympics, World Championships, and Asian Games on two occasions. He has also claimed victory in the Diamond League once. Chopra made history by winning the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics, becoming the first Asian athlete in javelin throw to achieve this feat.
With a personal best of 89.94 meters recorded at the Stockholm Diamond League in 2022, Neeraj Chopra aims to surpass the challenging 90-meter threshold in the 2025 season.
