Nicola Olyslagers defeated Yaroslava Mahuchikh for the high jump gold at Stockholm Diamond League
World record holder in the high jump, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, suffered another defeat by Nicola Olyslagers. This time, the Ukrainian athlete was defeated by the Australian high jumper at the Diamond League in Stockholm. Nicola Olyslagers, who also defeated Yaroslava Mahuchikh in the defense of her world indoor title in Nanjing this winter, won in Sweden with 2.01m. She cleared the height on her first attempt and then made three faults at 2.03m.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh finished second with 1.99m. After making two faults at 2.01m, she left one attempt at 2.03m in an attempt to snatch victory. In the end, she failed and remained second. The Ukrainian tops the world rankings for the season with 2.02m. Third in the Stockholm Diamond league’s pole vault was Poland’s Maria Zodzik with 1.93m.
“It was great to jump in these conditions. I’m delighted to have equalled my season’s best. I’m getting a lot of inspiration from competing with other world-class high jumpers. I’m organizing my travel to and from Australia, giving myself more time, and it’s working. My next competition is the Diamond League in Paris”, said the happy Nicola Olyslagers after her success in Stockholm.
