Nicola Olyslagers won the high jump gold at Paris Diamond League and again defeated Yaroslava Mahuchikh
Olympic, world and European champion in the high jump Yaroslava Mahuchikh suffered a second consecutive loss to the two-time world indoor champion Nicola Olyslagers. This time it happened at the Stade Charlety in Paris, where last year the Ukrainian high jumper set a world record of 2.10m.
Nicola Olyslagers won the gold at this year’s Paris Diamond League with a result of 2.00m, overcoming the height on her second attempt. After that, the Australian made three unsuccessful attempts at 2.03m.
Yaroslava Mahuchikh definitely did not have a good day and despite the support of the audience, she came in second with 1.97m, which she managed on her first attempt. However, she was on the verge of dropping out at 1.94m, where she made two faults and decided to go straight to 1.97m, where she had only one chance. The Ukrainian also attacked 2.00m, but without success in all three of her attempts at this height.
“Tonight was great. It was the first time we jumped so late in the evening, so it was hard to get my head around it. I’m very grateful for another 2.00m result, but I really wanted to get a personal best, so we’re just training”, said Nicola Olyslagers after her success in the French capital. “I need to work a lot more on my muscles to keep them strong”, added she.
Third place also with 1.97m was taken by world medalist Eleanor Patterson (Australia).
