Oblique Seville not worried about early losses to Kenny Bednarek
Despite his recent losses to Kenny Bednarek, Oblique Seville remains focused on his peak form for the World Championships. Oblique Seville may have lost to Kenny Bednarek in the first two rounds of the Grand Slam of Athletics, but that doesn’t bother the Jamaican sprinter.
In the first leg of the Michael Johnson’s League in Kingston, Oblique Seville finished second in the 100m and fifth in the 200m. In the second leg of the league in Miami, the Jamaican failed to claim victory in either event, finishing second to Kenny Bednarek.
In addition to his participation in the Grand Slam of Athletics, Oblique Seville also won the 400m at the Camperdown Classics and the 200m at Velocity Fest #16.
Competing in the 100m in Atlanta, Oblique Seville appeared to suffer an injury during the race, forcing him to finish third in the heats and miss the final. There has been no official statement from him on the matter yet.
Oblique Seville insisted that his preparation is mainly focused on the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, and that his current results are not an issue.
“My preparation is quite different because you have to understand that my season is in September. The World Championships are in September. So I don’t take the losses to Kenny personally, I know what I’m capable of”, said Oblique Seville.
The Jamaican finished fourth in the 100m final at the 2022 World Championships in Eugene. The 23-year-old sprinter also took fourth in the 100m final at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
