Oblique Seville: Running 9.87 sec in these conditions shows that I can run much faster anywhere
Oblique Seville won the 100m sprint at the Lausanne Diamond League with an impressive time of 9.87 sec for the conditions in which the athletes had to compete in Switzerland. Heavy rain and puddles accompanied the competitors during the race in Lausanne.
“Running 9.87 sec in these conditions shows that I can run much faster anywhere in the world. This is a good time. I have beaten the Olympic champion twice, in London and here, and that gives me a lot of confidence before the championships. It has been a while since a Jamaican has won the 100m at a world championships and, of course, I believe that I can be the one to do it. My coach inspires me a lot, even the little tips he gives make a big difference”, said a happy 24-year-old Oblique Seville after his victory in Lausanne.
On the other hand, the Olympic and world 100m champion Noah Lyles is unfazed by his loss. The American explained his second-place finish and is hopeful that his performance at the world championships in Tokyo next month will be far more impressive.
“I just had a terrible reaction to the gun. That was the only thing that was wrong. Technically I felt good, my warm-up was good, but once you miss the start at this level, the race is practically over. Physically I feel great and I am confident that every race will get better and better. The goal is to perfect the details, especially my start, heading towards Tokyo and the World Championships”, said Noah Lyles after the race in Lausanne.
