Rai Benjamin took revenge on Karsten Warholm to win the 400m hurdlers gold at Stockholm Diamond League

Athletics News . Hurdles News Article

The Stockholm Diamond League meeting between the three fastest 400m hurdlers in history, Karsten Warholm, Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos, offered another dose of emotions to athletics fans. The Olympic champion from Paris 2024 Games Rai Benjamin took revenge on Karsten Warholm for his loss in the 300m hurdles in Oslo a few days ago. He achieved success at the Diamond League in Stockholm with a new meeting record and the best result in the world for the season of 46.54 sec. The world champion from Eugene 2022, Alison dos Santos, finished second with 46.68 sec, his personal best for the season.

Karsten Warholm came out first on the final straight, but there he was only able to finish third with 47.41 sec.

“I think I got a little too excited on Thursday, but today I felt good even though I was tired. I didn’t have a good race strategically on Thursday, so I knew I had to fix that today. I had to stay patient, not panic, and catch up on as much sleep as I could after a few 3-4 hours of sleep a night”, said Rai Benjamin after hist Stockholm Diamond League victory. “The ride was a lot harder than I expected, so I spent most of the day sleeping and relaxing during the warm-up, so it paid off. I felt confident today because I know these guys, we’re all going to push each other to do well out there. We’re all competitors, once we’re out there, we all want to win. Our performances speak for themselves”, added he.
