Sandi Morris won pole vault gold at the Stockholm Diamond League

Athletics News . Pole Vault News Article

American pole vaulter Sandi Morris won the Stockholm Diamond League competition held in the square on Saturday.

Sandi Morris cleared a season-best 4.82m to claim victory. It was her second Diamond League victory this month, after triumphing in Rome on June 6, her first victory in three years.

The American had two failed attempts at 4.63m before she was able to overcome world-class competition. Only she and Switzerland’s pole vaulter Angelica Moser have cleared 4.63m. Sandi Morris then cleared 4.73m on her first attempt to secure the victory, and then cleared 4.82m on her second jump.

She failed to improve her own meeting record of 4.86m, missing the bar at 4.87m.

Italian pole vaulter Roberta Bruni earned the bronze with 4.53m, while Gabriela Leon and Tine Sutej completed the Top 5, but missed the honors.
