
Serbian javelin thrower Adriana Vilagos
Adriana Vilagos is Serbian track and field athlete, competing in the javelin throw. She is a two-time World U20 champion, two-time European Championships silver medalist, and Diamond League winner. Her personal best in the javelin throw is 67.22m, which is a national record of Serbia.
Adriana Vilagos was born on January 2, 2004, in Vrbas, Serbia. She started in sports from an early age and practised handball before turning to track and field athletics and javelin throw. At the age of 18, she won silver medal at the 2022 European Athletics Championships, becoming the youngest ever European medallist in a throwing event. Earlier, she was twice World U20 champion and European U20 record holder.
Adriana Vilagos started her competitive career in 2017. She made her debut at the Senta Serbian U18 Winter Throwing Championships, but did not recorded a successful attempt. However, by the end of the season, she won the gold at the Tiszaujvaros Nemzetkozi Atletikai Verseny and Veszprem VEDAC Javelin Throw Meeting, as well as at the Novi Sad Meeting.
In 2018, Adriana Vilagos showed her great talent and skills in the javelin throw, as during the year she won all the competition that took part in. She started the season by winning the gold at the Sremska Mitrovica U18 Meeting and Osijek Season Opening Meeting, before winning her first junior national titles at the Beograd Serbian U16 Championships and Sremska Mitrovica Serbian U18 Championships, as well as Novi Sad Serbian U20 Club Championships and Sremska Mitrovica Serbian U16 Club Championships.
Adriana Vilagos continue with her strong performance in 2019, triumphing at international junior events, including ISF World Schools Championships in Split and European Kids Athletics Games in Brno. During the season, she won the junior Balkan title at the Istanbul Balkan U18 Championships, and also triumphed at the Sremska Mitrovica Serbian Winter Throwing Championships, Split Easter U18 Meeting, Balaton U16 Championships, and Nemeth Miklos Javelin Throw Meeting. Meanwhile, she defended the junior titles in Serbia.
In 2020, Adriana Vilagos won her first senior national honor, byt winning the silver at the Novi Pazar Serbian Championships. She earned the bronze at the Istanbul Balkan U20 Championships and defended the title at the Serbian U18 and U20 Championships.
Adriana Vilagos won her first major international title in 2021, triumphing with the gold at the Nairobi World Athletics U20 Championship with 61.46m. During the season, she won another international title at the Split European Throwing U23 Cup. Meanwhile, Adriana Vilagos won the javelin throw silver at the Smederevo Balkan Championships, Tallinn European Athletics U20 Championships, and Kraljevo Serbian Championships. She also triumphed with the gold at the Krusevac Serbian U20 Championships, Prvenstvo ap Vojvodine za starije juniore-ke, Istanbul Balkan U20 Championships, Kraljevo Balkan U18 Championships, and 5. JenJavelin Speerwurf Festival. At the end of the season, she won the silver at the prestigious Memorial Borisa Hanžekovica in Zagreb with a personal best of 62.36m.
In 2022, Adriana Vilagos became the youngest ever European medallist in a throwing event by winning the silver at the Munich European Athletics Championship. Earlier during the season, she defended her World U20 title, by winning the Cali World Athletics U20 Championships with 63.52m, setting a new personal best. Adriana Vilagos also triumphed with the titles at the Oran XIX Mediterranean Games, Craiova Balkan Championships, and Krusevac Serbian Championships. During the season, she made her debut at the Diamond League, competing at the Memorial van Damme in Brussels, where won the bronze. Earlier, she also won the bronze at the prestigious 61st Golden Spike Ostrava.
Adriana Vilagos started the 2023 season by winning the bronze at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Portugal with 59.83m, but was far from her best results. She finished 4th at the Chorzow European Athletics Team Championships Second Division, before winning the silver at the 62nd Ostrava Golden Spike Ostrava with 61.22m. At the Diamond League’s Athletissima Lausanne and Silesia Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in Chorzow, Adriana Vilagos missed the podium, after finishing 4th and 8th, respectively. However, she continue the season by winning her second Balkan title at the Kraljevo Balkan Championships and her first European Athletics U20 title in Jerusalem. She finished the season by debuting at the senior World Athletics Championships in Budapest, but did not overcome the qualifications with modest 58.65m.
In 2024, Adriana Vilagos returned to her strong results of over 60m. She started strongly by winning the gold at the European Throwing Cup in Leiria, Serbian Throwing CUP in Sremska Mitrovica, and Hylo Javelin Meeting in Offenburg. She won the bronze at the 63rd Ostrava Golden Spike Ostrava and her second silver at the European Athletics Championships in Roma, Italy. Adriana Vilagos won her second national title at the Kraljevo Serbian Championships, before winning her second Diamond League’s honor in London, where earned the silver. She competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics, but did not overcome the qualifications. However, a few weeks later, at the Chorzow Diamond League she won her first Diamond League victory. Moreover, she qualified for the Diamond League’s Final and won the silver. Meanwhile, she won the gold at the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb and Serbia Athletics Meeting in Priboj.
Adriana Vilagos started the 2025 season with another victory at the European Throwing Cup. She continue by winning the silver medals at the Rabat and Oslo Diamond League, as well as Hylo Javelin Meeting in Offenburg. At the 64th Ostrava Golden Spike Ostrava, she won her first meeting gold. Earlier at the season, she set a personal best and national record of 67.22m at the Easter Meeting in Split.
