Sharon Lokedi seeks revenge at the Boston 10K after disappointment in New York
After a disappointing performance at the Mini 10K in New York, Boston Marathon champion Sharon Lokedi will be looking for redemption as she returns to familiar territory for the Boston 10K on Sunday.
Sharon Lokedi, who stunned the world with a convincing victory at this year’s Boston Marathon, managed only a fifth-place finish in New York on June 7, clocking 31:13 min in a race dominated by Olympic marathon bronze medalist Hellen Obiri.
Hellen Obiri took the win in 30:44 min after a close sprint with American Weini Kelati, who settled for second place in 30:49 min. Ethiopia’s Gotit Gebreselassie finished third in 30:54 min.
The result only fueled Sharon Lokedi’s competitive fire as she looks to make a strong comeback in Boston. She believes her triumph at the Boston Marathon earlier this year will propel her to glory.
“Winning the Boston Marathon is the highlight of my career so far”, said Sharon Lokedi. “I’m excited to be back in Boston to run the 10K and experience that feeling of the marathon again”, added she.
In April, Sharon Lokedi turned the tables on defending champion Hellen Obiri to win the Boston Marathon in a record time of 2:17:22 hours. Hellen Obiri settled for second place in 2:17:41 hours, with Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw (2:18:06 hours) completing the podium.
This will be Sharon Lokedi’s second attempt at the Boston 10K, having failed to finish the race in 2022. With good form, fitness and confidence, the Kenyan will aim to do better in her second appearance.
Organizers are expecting fast times in the race, which has attracted more than 10,000 participants from 97 countries. “The Boston running community can expect fast times and exciting races in this year’s 10K across all divisions”, said organizers in a statement.
