Shericka Jackson wants to prove she’s one of the best in the sprint

Athletics News . Sprints News Article

After a turbulent 2024 and missing the Paris Olympics due to injury, Shericka Jackson is ready to make a strong comeback on the track. The reigning world 200m champion will make her first start of the year in Kingston, Jamaica, on Saturday. She will start in the 60m.

“Even though I didn’t make it in this Olympics, I’m one of the best. I’m among the best and I want to prove it. Hurdles fall. It doesn’t mean it’s forever down, you know? You get up, but it’s very hard to deal with”, said Shericka Jackson.

In her absence in Paris, the Olympic 200m title was won by American sprinter Gabby Thomas, who also won gold medals with the US 4x100m relay and 4x400m relay teams.

Shericka Jackson has the fifth fastest woman of all time in 100m, while in the 200m, she’s the second fastest woman in history.

She started her career as a 400m sprinter, winning individual bronze medals at the Rio 2016 Olympics, 2015 World Championships and 2019 World Championships. At these competitions, she won silver in the 4x400m relays at the 2016 Olympics, then gold and bronze respectively at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. At the 2019 Championships, she also won gold in the 4×100 m relay. After Shericka Jackson shifted to shorter sprints in 2021 she won bronze in the 100m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, then added a gold and bronze for the 4x100m and 4x400m relays respectively.
