Simon Ehammer won long jump gold at the Diamond League Final

Athletics News . Long Jump News Article

The World heptathlon champion Simon Ehammer won the long jump Diamond League trophy after triumphing at the Weltklasse Zurich with a jump of 8.32m, registering this achievement on his third attempt.

This winter’s indoor world champion Mattia FUrlani tried to overtake Simon Ehammer and came as close as possible to him, but with 8.30m (+0.7 m/sec) he had to settle for second place.

This winter’s indoor world medalist Liam Adcock (Australia) found a place in the top three again and came third with 8.24m (-0.3 m/sec).

Simon Ehammer will compete in the long jump and the decathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

“At the World Championships I plan to compete in the long jump and the decathlon. I had an intense phase with Lausanne, four competitions at the national championships and today in Zurich. It’s incredible, it’s so good. I can’t find words to describe my feelings. The victory at home in Zurich, the victory at the Diamond League final, it’s huge. I lost a lot on the board in my best jump, but the jump was good”, said Simon Ehammer. “I hope to bring this rhythm to Tokyo. If I can compete there at the same level as today, I’m happy. It’s always good to compete at home. My body is in great shape and improving every day. The journey to Tokyo with this “Winning is the best thing that could have happened to me. Today’s rhythm and my easy way of competing were the best things for me today. How many times have I jumped over 8 meters? 63, well, that’s really special. You train really hard to achieve that consistency, but you can’t take it for granted. A few years ago I had better results in the long jump in my decathlon events than when I was competing in an individual event. But now that’s changed. Today I won my first diamond trophy – so in a way it’s come full circle. I love jumping here because with only three or four events, all the spectators are watching me and it’s a good situation for me, I like it”, added Simon Ehammer after his victory.
