Spain announced strong 22-member team for the European Race Walking Team Championships
Spain has announced a strong 22-member team for the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady, Czech Republic, on May 18. The team includes two-time world champion Maria Perez, who won the 35km race walk in Podebrady two years ago with a world record of 2:37:15 hours and Spain topped the medal table again with six gold medals. That result is still number one in the all-time world rankings.
Maria Perez won the gold at the 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, scoring the first place in both the 20 km and 35 km race walks. Additionally, she achieved a fourth-place finish in the 20 km walk during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In 2018, Maria Perez earned a gold medal at the European Athletics Championships, where she also established a championship record.
Raquel Gonzalez and Cristina Montesinos are also in the 35km team. She was also part of the team two years ago.
Another interesting name in the Spanish team is two-time European champion in the 35km race walk Miguel Angel Lopez, the event in which he became European champion in Munich in 2022.
