Tara Davis-Woodhall smashed the competition in the long jump at the Stockholm Diamond League

Athletics News . Long Jump News Article

Paris 2024 Olympic long jump champion Tara Davis-Woodhall won the Stockholm Diamond League with a meeting record of 7.05m(+1.3 m/s). She achieved this result on her first attempt and did not allow herself to be displaced from first place until the end of the competition. Only Italy’s Larissa Iapichino came close to threatening the American’s victory and made several good attempts, but with a best of 6.90m (+3.6 m/s) she remained second. With a tailwind within the permissible values, the Italian recorded 6.85m (+1.0 m/s) on her last outing in the sector tonight.

American athlete Jasmine Moore finished third with 6.76m (+2.4m/sec), while Olympic, world and European champion Malaika Mihambo came in fourth with 6.75m (+0.7m/sec).

“I’ve been working on my speed and strength in training. I finally got to my season-ending mark, which is a metre back from where I started today. I’m super excited to get a feel for my approach and what it’s like to fly again. I pick up a lot of speed at the beginning of my approach and accelerate towards the end, but you can see my steps get a little bit slower at the end of the approach. I ended up having to pull back a metre and pick up my speed on takeoff”, said Tara Davis-Woodhall after her victory in Sweden.
