The reigning Olympics champion Tara Davis-Woodhall won the long jump title at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The American athlete jumped a world lead of 7.13m to win the gold in the event ahead of the German long jumper Malaika Mihambo, whose best attempt in the final was 6.99m.
The bronze was for the 2025 South American champion Natalia Linares (Colombia), who jumped 6.92m.
The Top 5 were completed by Hilary Kpatcha (France) and Claire Bryant (USA) with 6.82m and 6.68m, respectively.
“My Olympic gold medal now has a friend”, said Davis-Woodhall, who smiled through the tears when they played the US national anthem to celebrate her gold medal at the world track and field championships. “I do believe in my country. I believe we’re having a really hard time right now. We just need someone positive out there to give an outlook of ‘We’re all in this together. We’re all human.’ We all have one heart, one brain, and if we use this together, we can be unstoppable”, added the new world champion.
Tara Davis-Woodhall is Paris 2024 Olympics champion and 2023 World Athletics Championships silver medalist. She is also 2024 World Indoor champion.
