Two-time Frankfurt Marathon champion Brimin Kipkorir suffered a five-year doping ban
Kenyan marathon runner Brimin Kipkorir suffered a five-year doping ban by the Athletics Integrity Unit after admitting two rule violations. The two-time Frankfurt Marathon champion was given a provisional ban in February while the case was investigated. It has now been confirmed that his ban will be for five years, which is likely to mean the end of his career as he will be 39 when the ban expires.
“The AIU has provisionally suspended Brimin Misoi Kipkorir (Kenya) for the presence/use of prohibited substances (EPO, furosemide). This sample was collected out of competition on 22 November 2024”, says the AIU statement.
Brimin Kipkorir tested positive for the banned substance furosemide during an out-of-competition test in Kaptagat last November.
He also tested positive for erythropoietin in December 2024.
Marathon running has faced a series of prominent doping scandals in recent years, especially involving athletes from Kenya, a leading nation in the sport.
Diana Kipyokei of Kenya was disqualified from her 2021 Boston Marathon victory due to doping violations in 2022 and subsequently received a six-year suspension.
