Yared Nuguse broke the indoor one mile world record at the Millrose Games in New York City
Paris 2024 Olympic 1,500m bronze medalist Yared Nuguse broke the indoor one mile world record by winning the Millrose Games in New York City last night in 3:46.63 min. Hobbs Kessler finished second in 3:46.90 min. Both runners were under Yomif Kejelcha’s previous world record of 3:47.01 min.
Third remained the Australian runner Cameron Myers, who set a new under-20 world record of 3:47.48 min.
“The race tactics were the same (without Josh Kerr), I was going to be up front no matter what anyone else was doing. I have more confidence from the Olympics, more confidence in my training. I’m not afraid to be up front anymore. “I knew that if I backed off somewhere, they would overtake me, so I told myself ‘don’t give up, not even for a second’ and just hoped that I had more of them at the end”, said Yared Nuguse after winning the gold and improving the world record.
Yared Nuguse is one of the top middle-distance runners of the world. He triumphed with the title of NCAA Division I champion in 2019 and earned a bronze medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics. He holds the North American outdoor record for the one-mile distance, as well as the North American indoor records for both the 1500 meters and one mile.
In September 2024, it was announced that Yared Nuguse had signed with Michael Johnson’s Grand Slam Track league for the 2025 season, where he will compete in the 800m and 1,500m events.
