Bin Feng earned the gold in women’s discus throw at Nagoya Asian Games

Athletics News . Discus Throw News Article

The track and field showcase at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya continued its spectacular run at the Paloma Mizuho Sports Park. Held during the final week of September 2026, the women’s discus throw final stood out as one of the most technically elite field events of the entire athletics program. In a dramatic display of power, rhythm, and aerodynamic precision, China’s reigning global force Bin Feng captured the gold medal, unleashing a magnificent throw of 63.83 meters to lead a stellar 1–2 finish for her nation ahead of rising star Zhichao Jiang.

The victory further underscores China’s absolute stranglehold on continental throwing events. Coming into the competition as the overwhelming pre-race favorite, Feng carried herself with supreme confidence inside the cage. After navigating a competitive opening round where athletes adjusted to the ring’s surface, Feng found her signature rhythm in the middle sequence of the final. With an explosive rotational drive and a flawless release angle, she sent the discus flying to her winning mark of 63.83 meters, a distance that ultimately proved untouchable for the rest of the field.

The silver medal was secured by fellow compatriot Zhichao Jiang, confirming a highly successful night for the Chinese athletics delegation. Jiang, who represents the exciting future of Chinese throwing, pushed her experienced teammate until the absolute final round. Showcasing remarkable composure on the big stage, Jiang executed a beautifully balanced throw to record a superb distance of 62.25 meters. The mark comfortably solidified her second-place standing and guaranteed a double-podium celebration for the powerhouse nation.

While the Chinese duo occupied the top two spots, the battle for the remaining podium positions featured incredible world-class depth. Thailand’s legendary thrower Subenrat Insaeng put together a phenomenal series to capture the bronze medal. Insaeng, a multi-time Southeast Asian Games champion and a veteran of continental competitions, relied on her immense experience to handle the mounting pressure from the chasing pack. She uncorked a massive seasonal effort of 61.43 meters, bringing the traveling Thai fans to their feet and securely locking down a thoroughly deserved third-place finish.

Just missing out on an absolute podium placement was India’s timeless veteran, Seema Kaliramna (formerly Antil). Competing in yet another edition of the Asian Games, the decorated Indian champion demonstrated that she remains a elite force across the continent. Kaliramna launched a fantastic throw of 59.88 meters, narrowly missing the elusive 60-meter barrier. Though she finished just outside the medals in fourth place, her remarkably consistent series highlighted her incredible longevity and enduring class in international throwing circles.

Rounding out the elite top five was the host nation’s favorite, Nanaka Kori, who delivered a highly calculated performance in front of a passionate partisan crowd. Kori fought hard to find her rhythm in the early flights but capitalized on her fourth-round attempt to hit a mark of 56.22 meters. The throw was enough to anchor her place in the upper echelon of the standings, holding off late-stage challenges from trailing competitors and ensuring Japan was represented in the final top five.

The spectacular marks achieved in Nagoya illustrate the rapidly rising competitive standard of women’s field events across Asia. While the chasing pack continues to close the distance with high-caliber throws, the night belonged exclusively to Bin Feng and her clinical execution. Standing together with their national flags hoisted high during the post-event victory ceremony, Feng and Jiang officially celebrated a phenomenal showcase of absolute discipline, setting an exceptional standard for the next generation of Asian discus throwers.
