The Cuban-born Italian athlete, who is the national record holder, jumped 17.59m (-0.1 m/s) in his fifth attempt, improving his earlier result of 17.58m (+1.1 m/s).
Jamaican athlete Jordan Scott earned the silver with 17.33m (-0.2 m/s), achieved in his last jump. The bronze was for another Jamaican athlete – Jaydon Hibbert, who recorded 17.02m.
The competition did not offered any intrigue, as Andy Díaz Hernandez took the lead already in the second jump with 17.58m, while Jordan Scott was second with 17.08m. No one was able to overtake the leaders until the end of the competition and they only improved their results.
The Top five was completed by Lazaro Martinez (Cuba) and Yasser Mohamed Triki (Algeria), jumping 16.83m and 16.71m, respectively.
