
Andy Diaz Hernandez won the triple jump gold at the Italian Athletics Championships in Florence
Reigning world and European indoor champion Andy Diaz Hernandez was in excellent form on the first day of the Italian Athletics Championships in Florence on Saturday night. He came close to the 18-meter mark on his first attempt of the competition, landing at 17.87m. This is the world’s best of the season and adds seven centimeters to his previous national record, which he set at the 2025 World Indoor Championships.
In fact, Andy Diaz Hernandez had two jumps that exceeded his previous national record. He improved his previous best in the third round with 17.81m.
Simone Biasutti made phenomenal progress, breaking the 17-meter mark for the first time in his career. He recorded 17.32m in his second attempt, adding 38 centimeters to his previous personal best.
Last year’s world silver medalist Andrea Dallavalle completed the podium in third place with 16.86m.
In the women’s triple jump, the reigning European U20 champion Erika Saraceni made a promising debut of the season after missing the first months of the year due to hernia surgery. She achieved a personal best of 14.41m to win her first event since competing at the 2025 World Championships in Athletics.
Dariya Derkach finished second in the women’s triple jump with 14.36m, while Greta Brugnolo finished third with 13.54m.
