
Anna Hall set a meeting record and heptathlon all-time second achievement at Hypo-Meeting in Gotzis
Anna Hall moved up to second position in the all-time heptathlon rankings after winning the Hypo-Meeting in Gotzis with a meeting record of 7,032 points.
the American athlete took the lead after the second event of the heptathlon and maintained her lead until the end, setting personal bests in the high jump, shot put, javelin throw and 800m. She finished with 456 points ahead of Sofie Dokter (Netherlands), who took second place with a personal best of 6,576 points, while Martha Araujo (Colombia)set a South American record of 6,475 points for the third place.
Americans Erin Marsh and Michelle Atherley were fastest in the first event of the heptathlon, the 100m hurdles, both clocking 12.93 sec. Abigail Pawlett (12.94) and Sienna MacDonald (12.97) also finished under 13 seconds.
Surprisingly, Annik Kalin failed to break the 13-second mark, but her time of 13.03 sec was one of her best times to date. Anna Hall’s time of 13.19 sec was her best since the 2023 World Championships.
Anna Hall led the way in the high jump, clearing 1.89m, her best of the season. She then equaled her personal best of 1.92m before setting a new personal best of 1.95m, giving her a 163-point lead overall.
European Indoor Championships silver medallist Sofie Dokter moved up to second place overall with a 1.86m high jump, while Timara Chapman (USA) moved up to third with a 1.83m jump.
Anna Hall’s success continued in the shot put, where she achieved a personal best of 14.86m. Sofie Dokter consolidated her second place overall with a personal best of 14.17m.
Anna Hall finished the first day with a 200m time of 23.37 sec, her fastest time in two years, giving her a score of 4161 points.
Abigail Pawlett was fastest in the 200m, improving her personal best to 23.06 sec.
The second day started well for Anna Hall, who achieved a season-best time in the long jump of 6.44m. As expected, Annik Kalin led the pack with a jump of 6.77m. Araujo also performed well, achieving a personal best of 6.63m.
A personal best of 46.16m in the javelin throw kept Anna Hall’s chances of not only winning, but also improving her personal best in the heptathlon of 6,988 points. Australia’s Tori West achieved the best result of the day with 50.48m, while Martha Araujo also excelled with a throw of 49.42m.
Going into the final event, Anna Hall knew she had to run the 800m in 2:03.33 min to join the elite club of heptathletes with over 7,000 points. With a perfect run, she set a meeting record in the heptathlon of 2:01.23 min, earning her victory with 7,032 points and second place in the all-time rankings, alongside Carolina Kluft.
Sofie Dokter finished with a 2:10.88 min in the 800m, giving her a score of 6,576 points for second place, while Martha Araujo ran a 2:15.89 min to take third place with 6,475 points.
“My last heptathlon before this one broke my heart”, said Anna Hall, referring to the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she finished fifth. “But I feel like this heptathlon healed it”, added she.
