Armand Duplantis eagers to compete at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships
Armand Duplantis, who recently set another world record in the pole vault, now has a new target. The Swedish pole vaulter broke the world record for the 13th time last week, clearing 6.29m at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest, and will be one of the biggest attractions at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships next month.
“The natural next step would be 6.30m. And I think that would be a huge barrier to overcome for me and for the sport in general”, said Armand Duplantis. “I hope to reach that height in the near future. As far as where the limits are, I don’t really think about it”, added he.
At the world championships in Tokyo, which starts in September 13, he will be in the stadium where made his Olympic breakthrough, winning the gold at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Deprived of an audience due to restrictions during the pandemic four years ago, Armand Duplantis is eager to return and compete in front of a full stadium in Tokyo.
“I’ve probably never been so excited about a race”, said Armand Duplantis. “It’s going to be an incredible stadium when it’s full and has the energy of the crowd. I think that’s definitely going to give me a good boost”, added he.
