Armand Duplantis set his 12th pole vault world record at Stockholm Diamond League
He is only 25 years old, but he is undoubtedly the living legend in the men’s pole vault. The holder of all possible pole vault titles, Armand Duplantis, set his 12th world record. And he did it as a joke. The exceptional Swede cleared 6.28m on his first attempt at the Stockholm Diamond League and brought the entire stadium to its feet. The achievement is also a new meeting record and a new Diamond League record, as well as Sweden’s national record,
Tonight, Armand Duplantis made no mistake from his first height of 5.60m to 6.28m, and everything seemed like child’s game for him. Just a few days ago, he cleared 6.15m at the Diamond League in Oslo and then said that he had decided to save his strength for the “home” tournament in Stockholm, where his goal was to attack the world record. The Swedish athlete improved his own pole vault record of 6.27m, set in Clermont-Ferrand in February this year.
Australian pole vaulter Kurtis Marschall came second in the event tonight with 5.90m, while European indoor champion Menno Vloon of the Netherlands finished third with 5.80m. Former world record holder Renaud Lavillenie of France finished fourth with the same result. The Top 5 was completed by Keaton Daniel (USA).
