Armand Duplantis was awarded Sweden’s Athlete of the Year for the fifth time
Europe’s number one athlete for 2024 Armand Duplantis received two more awards. He was named Sweden’s No 1 Athlete of the Year and also won the Achievement of the Year award. The 25-year-old Swedish pole vaulter earned the Swedish Athlete of the Year award for the fifth time in his career after winning the pole vault title at the Paris Olympics with a new world record of 6.25m. By the end of the season, the Swede had once again improved the world record to 6.26m.
Armand Duplantis went undefeated in 2024, setting three world records. He also won his third European outdoor title in Rome with a championship record of 6.10m, and also won the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
“You never get used to receiving this award. Maybe I’m a little used to it”, joked Armand Duplantis as he accepted his award. “I feel very special, big thanks to my family, my parents who coach me. It’s the same group as it was from the beginning. There are so many people who support me here and I don’t understand it, really. It’s hard to understand. I think I’m a pretty good person, but you guys give me so much love, it’s incredible. You guys who were there at the Olympics, that pushed me so much and there were so many Swedes and so many Swedish flags there, that means everything to me”, added the Swedish athlete.
He is expected to make his first start of the winter season at the ISTAF tournament in Berlin on February 14.
