Bayanda Walaza: My running style is making a name for me
South African sprinter Bayanda Walaza says his unusual running style has helped him become famous around the world and he has no intention of changing it unless it stops bringing him success.
The young athlete has captured the attention of the masses with his unique running style, which resembles a windmill, with his arms spinning wildly as he races towards the finish line. Canadian sprinters Donovan Bailey and Bob Hayes of the United States are also known for their unique running styles.
The two-time world U20 champion revealed that he doesn’t care about his running style for now, as long as it brings him medals and helps him achieve fast times. Bayanda Walaza said his unique style has made a name for himself and continues to put him on the world map. He added that his style motivates him to do better as people are constantly talking about him and are eager to see him every time he steps onto the track.
The South African also revealed the one condition that would make him change his running style, insisting that he is currently comfortable with it.
“I don’t care, as long as it works for me, as long as it makes a name for me, then I’m really happy. I’ll change it when I have to”, said Bayanda Walaza after finishing second at the Kip Keino Classic. “But for now, as long as it’s still working, I think it’s too late to change it. I love my running style; it gets people talking, and the more people talk, the more I want to perform well”, added he.
Bayanda Walaza’s last race was at the Kip Keino Classic, where he finished second in the men’s 100m, clocking an impressive 10.03 sec. Lachlan Kennedy won the race in 9.98 sec, while Ferdinand Omanyala finished third in 10.07 sec.
Bayanda Walaza started his season with a bang, setting a national record for U20s with a time of 9.99 sec.
